About the manifestations of the phantasmatic

On February 19, 2016, the second panel discussion on the topic of “The Semicircle of Mental Health: Modern Man between Fantasy and Reality” as part of the series of lectures FREUD / DA VINCI was hosted by the Psychoanalytical Society of Serbia at the Belgrade City Library.

Srđa Zlopaša introduced us to the topics of development of the concept of fantasy since Sigmund Freud, the interplay between fantasy and reality and to a deeper understanding of the inner world of the modern man. Following the forms and manifestations of the phantasmatic life in health and illness and development of creativity, the lecturer took us to the work of Petar Lubarda, emphasizing the connection between fantasy and creativity.

Olga Savostjanova spoke about primal scene and its omnipresence in the field of mythology and art, citing numerous examples that implicitly or explicitly comprise it. From Sphinxes, Centaur and Hymen, through poets and painters, Olga took us through fantasies related to the parental couple, children’s curiosity about inception and repercussions of all this on psychosexual development.

Jasmina Vrbaški

Jasmina Vrbaški talked about what happens in times in which unconscious fantasies can be acted out on the body, using the specific example of cosmetic surgery.
The lecturer pointed at the possible models of acting out of the fantasy of body “remodelling”. Jasmina points to the fantasies about a desired but unattainable object or about an unwanted, rejecting or persecuting object and their further destiny – what happens when one tries to resolve an intrapsychic conflict with the help of cosmetic surgery.
