Thinking on the Border,
(In)Sanity and Destructiveness
Trieste
his year’s, fourth in row, regional Conference was organized in Trieste, Italy under the name (In)Sanity and Destructiveness. Conceived as an idea back in the time of Tamara Štajner, it was realized for the first time in Belgrade, thanks to the perseverance and dedication of Jasminka Šuljagić. It gathered, as expected, as every time, numerous psychoanalysts and candidates of psychoanalytic societies from nine countries of southern and central Europe. The rich program included over 40 lecturers who, with inspiring lectures, initiated numerous discussions and deeper reflections in smaller groups. A special part of the Conference was dedicated to the revolutionary activities of Franco Basaglia through the watching of the film “Once Upon a Time the City of Fools” (La città dei matti) as well as a visit to the complex of the former psychiatric hospital where this revolution took place. On the last day of the conference, a round table was held where lecturers who were personally involved in the reform, side by side with Basaglia, participated. Regardless of the specific program, there was also space for socializing, relaxing by the sea, and walking around the city center.
Ours, the Psychoanalytic Society of Serbia, was represented by seven psychoanalysts and five candidates. Four of our psychoanalysts participated in the Conference themselves as lecturers, moderators and/or presenters.
